STRADE DI MEMORIA · PRIVATE FAMILY HERITAGE JOURNEYS
The Italy They Knew. The Stories You Carry.
Discover the wartime story of someone your family remembers—and experience the places connected to their service, together. We combine professional archival research, a beautifully printed family dossier, and thoughtfully planned private journeys through Italy.
Research-led. Family-centered. Rooted in Italy.
Every journey begins with one person.
A grandfather who rarely spoke about the war. A great-grandfather remembered through a handful of photographs. A relative whose time in Italy became part of family lore. You may know a great deal about their service—or almost nothing at all.
We begin with what you have, follow the historical record as far as it takes us, and build an experience that brings generations of your family closer to that history.
From the archives to Italy
01 · Discover their story
We investigate service records, unit histories, wartime maps, and other surviving sources to reconstruct the places and experiences connected to your loved one. We distinguish what the documents establish from what remains uncertain.
02 · Receive your printed dossier
Your family receives a carefully written and designed dossier before the trip is finalized: a narrative, timeline, archival evidence, maps, citations, and open questions. It is a keepsake to read, share, and preserve.
03 · Shape your family journey
Together, we design a private itinerary around the discoveries and your family’s interests, pace, ages, and travel preferences. Historic sites sit alongside the food, art, landscapes, and everyday Italian life that make a journey memorable.
04 · Experience Italy together
Our vision is to personally accompany private family groups in Italy, interpreting the history and sharing the places and culture along the way. Escorted departures are in development and are not yet available to book.
Not just where they fought. The Italy they encountered.
A servicemember’s time in Italy was more than a sequence of battles. We look for the towns, roads, landscapes, and communities that formed the setting of their experience—without claiming a personal connection where the evidence does not support one.
The result is not a generic battlefield tour. It is a journey shaped by one family’s story.
Meet your hosts
Strade di Memoria is being developed by an American professional archivist and her Italian husband, Nico. Together, we bring historical research, a love of travel planning, and a personal connection to Italy to every journey.
Begin with a story
We are currently developing our research process through pilot family histories. If you are interested in future research services or private family journeys, we would love to hear what you know about your relative.
